Simple water sensitive urban design

Water sensitive urban design is about designing urban spaces around water to

  • Provide stormwater treatment to remove pollutants and protect waterways.

  • Create beautiful landscapes for recreation

  • Provide resilient water supplies matched to suitable uses

  • Retain water in the landscape to water plants and reduce downstream flows

Our vision is to make it simple for people to plan and design developments in ways that are water sensitive and achieve the greatest benefits for the community.

We provide online tools that help people with the design and modelling of WSUD including stormwater treatment systems

POWERFUL ONLINE TOOLS TO SUPPORT WSUD IN YOUR COMMUNITY
MUSIC AUDITOR

The MUSIC model is a stormwater quality model by eWater. It is commonly used for modelling stormwater treatment systems to determine whether they meet planning requirements.

The MUSIC Auditor is an on-line tool for checking the parameter inputs to MUSIC models to ensure compliance with Melbourne Water guidelines.

       WETLAND ANALYSIS TOOL

Wetlands rely on plants to filter stormwater pollutants and need to be well designed so the plants can survive and thrive.

The Wetland Analysis Tool makes it easy to check if the plants are at risk of being inundated too often.

NEW! The wetland analysis tool now allows export of graphs.

 SPELLS ANALYSIS

It is not only the proportion of time that wetlands spend above or below certain water levels that can affect plants but the length of spells.

The Wetland Analysis Tool has been upgraded to support spells analysis. This can be used to understand whether plants are likely to be inundated to critical threshold levels for durations that may result in drowning or whether they are likely to cope with the range of expected conditions.

While further research is needed, preliminary guidance is provided in the Wetland Analysis Tool.
